My Secret Competitors, Volume I; The Inspiration

Caroline Choi Podcast Cover Image

For the past few days, I have been religiously listening to Caroline Choi’s podcast. Personally, I think it’s absolutely amazing. It’s beautifully unscripted and raw. I love her imperfections and authentic self, she speaks as though she just venting to a close friend and it feels like you get a peek into her real life and not the performative crap that is peddled on social media by millions of other people. Her goal is to get into the two commas X club; two commas for millions and X for 10; so 10 million in revenue. She is the reason I am challenging myself to write and post every day even though her personal commitment is for a full year mine is only for 30 days. She is incredibly inspiring and amazing. I don’t plan to hit the 2X comma club but a decent comma would be nice.

She doesn’t know this but we are in a competition. Yeap if she posts a podcast and I haven’t written a post for that day I immediately drop whatever I’m doing and write a few words. Sometimes she will forget to drop a podcast episode and I will still write a little something and on those days I considered myself the winner for staying diligent in posting. But sadly I was completely destroyed in my one-sided friendly competition the other day.

She missed a day it happens maybe once a week and I reveled in the chance to do a victory lap as I posted something that was less than 300 words. The next day when I listen to her post there were a few similarities in our experiences we are both a little burnt out. I have a 9-5 and still work on my companies at night and on the weekends, she is a Real Estate Agent and is doing some other stuff (click funnel, Alex Hormozi courses, and a bunch of other stuff). But then she went on to explain who she was explaining to a friend all the things that she has learned and all the little wins that she has accomplished. Creating her first click funnel, linking mail chimp to her click funnel, three landing pages, and email automation with a six-day automation sequence. She is doing a lot; paying for multiple classes taking free classes putting in the hard work. I am just following along as a spectator and hopefully reaping the benefits of her struggles. It reminds me of a Jay-Z quote; Hov did that so hopefully you won’t have to go through that ~ Izzo (H.O.V.A.). This completely rings true when you listen to Nipsey Hussle’s interview where he said when going to get the sample of Annie: It’s a Hard Knock Life for Hustle & Motivate he only had to just get clearance from Jay-Z. Because Jay-Z negotiated terms where any hip-hop artists after him could use the song without going through the hoops he had to go through.

One of the quotes she mentioned in the podcast is that Mark Cuban says just outwork everybody! And I’ve listened to Bloomberg’s Game Changers series on Mark Cuban and the one moment that stood out was his girlfriend saying are you going to work or take me out!? And they broke up because he wanted to outwork everyone! She reminded me, that the podcast is just about documenting the process and you still have to outwork everyone!

I am going to start trying to write two or three posts ahead of time and work to move the needle.
