How to Get 1000 followers on Instagram in less than 300 posts no purchase necessary!

I signed up for Instagram last year and quickly found it quite boring. Sure I saw other people’s pictures and things that they were doing at the time but I wanted more. So I decided to make a game out of it and see if I could obtain 1000 followers without buying them.

In order to do this, I briefly studied other Instagram users with a surplus of followers. There were 5 running similar attributes that seem to be at play for all of the power users.

1. One and most important get a theme to your Instagram account. If fashion is your passion or fitness is your business, or selfies are your forte then let it shine. Once you have a theme people will know what to expect from your Instagram account and if they are into that they will follow your account and come back on a regular basis. Themes are common for all accounts with thousands of followers. Take Blake Scott, @blakescott_, for instance, he currently has over 300,000 followers and has a very nice Instagram account filled with affordable men’s wear. Themes are essential to viewers of your Instagram account, it gives them continuity of what’s to come next and if they are into what you are posting they will follow.

2. Two. Post regularly. Set up a mental time frame for when and how much you plan to post. If you plan to post every other day or every other hour make sure that you have the content for that amount of posting and are willing to stick to that schedule for a certain amount of time. The time you post during the day also matters. If you post during times when most of your followers are asleep then they will miss your post and not get a chance to interact with it and like it. A good rule of thumb is to post when you are normally using Instagram yourself and if that doesn’t work several studies conducted say the highest volume of traffic on Instagram is around 3 pm.

3. Three Use relevant and useful hashtags. Hashtags get you more exposure to other user and if they are relevant and popular then they will be seen by more people and the right people that may want to follow you. Don’t overdo it with hashtags though to many this screams desperation. Most Instagram users tend to use around three and most people say one to three doesn’t make your comments look scattered with signs of “I want more followers”.  Now, three is the number more widely used but an internet traffic monitoring site listed 11 hashtags that the number that gets the most interactions. Not 12 and not 10 Not sure how that works though.

4. Four Post Good Pictures. This should go without saying because it’s basically all Instagram is about but you have to post aesthetically pleasing photos. Good photos just make good sense. This should also be the easiest guideline to stay on course with since even the older model phone usually has a pretty decent camera. Many prefer a DSLR but normally whatever you’re sending the text out on will do just fine. It also helps to download another camera app so that you can use other filters than the ones preset by Instagram. Right now I like Camu, Aillis, and PS Express. I was using Google + for a long time but switch it up. This also sets your photos apart from others that might have the same theme as you.

5. Follow others This concept creates a reciprocal action and opens other users up to follow you. Of course don’t follow to unfollow quoted by many profiles, but follow people that you think are interesting. It also helps to follow people with you same theme they are more likely to follow back. From my own experience, there is a follow limitation of 7,500. How do I know that? I reach it and was disallowed to follow anyone else. Many People are proud that they follow zero people or just that one special person (which I feel is super stalkerish) but I am also excited about following many people since my feed is never boring and I am constantly seeing new and wonderful imagery.

Bonus: Have a blog that supports your Instagram or vice versa. Many Instagram users have blogs that elaborate more on the photo posted.
